I had a real axe to grind that day.

axe

Adding a pipe onto an axe or sledgehammer does two great things- adds a little more weight, and helps to extend the life of the handle. Missing and hitting the axe near the head puts a ton of stress on the handle, this protects it.

I also built up the bottom edge, which had worn away, with TIG welds, and then ground it back into shape.

Light Dragon

The makers of Gon Kirin(literally, light dragon) wanted a sign to show off their ArtPrize voting number. I stepped up and produced this. It is entirely done by hand, using a soapstone line and an oxyfuel torch.

If you look carefully at the chest of the dragon, you can also see the gear ball logo that I made.

Gear Ball

This was the logo for GRMakers for awhile, a local makerspace that I’m affiliated with. I was asked to make a sign that we could put on the chest of a fire breathing dragon at Artprize. This was part one of the sign.

The design was flame cut, ground clean, then blued along the defining lines with a TIG torch.

What’s in the box?

joshboxbox

I found a present that I knew my friend would really enjoy, but because of the nature of our friendship, I couldn’t make it too easy for him. So I fabricated a box out of steel, put the gift inside, filled it with rocks and told him that what was inside was fragile and heat sensitive. The final product weighed 26 pounds.

I think he cherishes the memory more than the present.
